Indy 500 Race Schedule 2010 - Bands and Preparation

The Indy 500 schedule includes a series of bands at 9 a.m., then around 11 a.m. the IMS pace car rides start. Around 11:55 a.m., the race cars will be set in the pit lane. After the grid cars are in place, the Purdue University Band will be ready to feature, “On the Banks of the Wabash”. At 1:00 p.m. ET, ABC will launch the broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 race.  This takes place while the Indy cars continue their warm up before making their way to the North Green Room.

The Indy 500 schedule proceeds on at 12:33 p.m. when race driver introductions are announced followed by photos and renditions of "America the Beautiful," "God Bless America," the "National Anthem, and Drivers to Your Cars."  This is the big moment everyone is waiting for in the Indianapolis 500!

As preliminary events lead up to to the start of race, the Indy 500 schedule includes: Rifle Volley, Taps, Back Home Again in Indiana, concluding with a Balloon Spectacle. The Indy 500 schedule then finally reaches that point when that final announcement of “Ladies and Gentleman Start Your Engine” happens at 1:05 p.m..  Minutes afterward, the parade lap begins followed byt the pace lap one minute after that, and the green flag will fall on the Indy 500 race at 1:12 p.m.. 

The Indy 500 race is a highly anticipated event every year, a race held at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Indianapolis 500 began in 1911 and has held its place in American pop culture, sports, and worldwide interest.  This Sunday's race is sold out and an estimated 425,000 people will be in attendance as Indy racers go for a staggering 500 miles.
