Napa Speedway Avoids The Rain On Friday

The rain came down in Albuquerque, but it narrowly avoided Napa Speedway and they were able to get in the Friday night series without any delay. Two new cars came down from Colorado but at the end of the evening it was some familiar faces that were leading the pack of cars once again.

The Bandoleros were first out and the two car field of Shelby Wilson and CJ Wilson were set to do battle in the heat race. CJ was inside and Shelby started outside with Shelby taking the lead. CJ stayed close for a few laps until he spun in turn 4. CJ got the car turned around but Shelby had already pulled away by ½ a lap. Shelby maintained the comfortable lead for the rest of the race and won easily.

The first lap of the main event saw both cars side by side until Shelby finally inched ahead going into lap 2. CJ stayed low and eventually pulled even with her as the cars raced tight for several laps. Shelby slowly pulled ahead and at the end she won by a little less than a car length.

The 14 Legends on hand were divided into 2 heats with some very fast cars in the first heat. After some shuffling on lap 1, the 37 of Joshua Jackson took the lead. The 9 of Jason Irwin gave chase and took over a couple of laps later. Irwin and Jackson broke away from the field and swapped the lead back and forth several times. Irwin had the lead going into the final lap but Jackson made a pass underneath him to take the win. The 8 of Bryan Grandin was third, the 12 of Justin Irwin was fourth, and the 17 of Dustin Tilbury was fifth.

The second heat started with the 82 of Joel Montross jumping out to the early lead. The race would turn out to be a four car battle for the top spot with numerous lead changes. The 13 of Nick Jansson took the lead until the 25 of Adam Pechman from Colorado held the top spot briefly. Jansson went back to the lead with Montross and Pechman right with him. On the final turn Jansson had the lead but he bobbled just a little bit and Montross was able to nip him at the finish line. The 77 of Brandon Moore from Colorado was third, Pechman was fourth, and the 35 of Kevin Baccari was fifth.

The 9 of Jason Irwin took the lead at the start of the main with the 37 of Joshua Jackson right behind. Irwin started to slowly pull away as the laps ticked off. The 17 of Dustin Tilbury left the back straightaway which brought a yellow and erased Irwin’s lead with 8 laps remaining. On the restart, Jackson took over the top spot, but Jason came right back to the lead. The 12 of Justin Irwin started to battle Jackson for third and this allowed Jason to open up a several car length lead. Justin took over the second position and at the end it was Jason Irwin with the win, Justin Irwin second, Joshua Jackson third, the 8 of Bryan Grandin fourth, the 7M of Matthew Cardenas fifth, the 23 of Antonio Cardenas sixth, the 82 of Joel Montross seventh, the 36 of Zach Powell eighth, the 25 of Adam Pechman ninth, and the 13 of Nick Jansson tenth.
